 Introduction

Abuse is a wrong use of anything. Substance abuse refers to the use or misuse of any substance for wrong and harmful purpose. Alcohol is one such substance which is abused. There are many other substances, classified as drugs, which are medicines or go into the making of medicines which are indispensible in medical and surgical practices. They are prescribed by doctors, and used strictly in limit of such prescription, do lots of good. 

However, intentional or unintentional misuse of these drugs leads to very harmful effects in many cases to addiction from which it is difficult to extricate yourself.
Strict laws for sale of such substances and their implements are very necessary, and most countries have them.

Alcohol

Alcohol is a depressant and an anesthetic. It affects the brain and nervous system. The overall effects of alcohol on the body and on behavior vary a great deal depending on many factors, significant among them being the amount you consume and percent of alcohol in the blood as it reaches the brains. As this percentage increases the functioning of brain and nervous system is increasingly affected.


What happen to alcohol in the body?

It is an energy producing food like sugar but its nutrient value is negligible. Unlike most foods it is qucikly absorbed into the blood stream through the stomach and small intestine because it does not need to be digested. It is then carried to the liver where most of it is converted into heat and energy. Then it carried to blood stream to heart then to lungs . Some is expelled in the breath, some eventually reaches the sweat and urine and gets eliminated. From lungs the alcohol is circulated to brain.

Harm of alcohol to body

Habitual drinking of straight whisky irritate the lining membrane of the mouth and throat.
It also cause thickening of vocal cord tissue resulting in hoarse voice.
It results in stomach ulcer.
It affects immune system.
Heavy drinkers often suffer from malnutrition.
Heavy drinkers also run a higher risk of hemorrhagic stroke.
It reduce ability to perform.

Drug Abuse

Drug when used in limitedly and sensibly they reduce relive pain, tension, anxiety and induce relaxation and sleep, but in poisonous dosage can do harm to the mind and body.
Example in daily lives are caffeine in coffee, tea, alcohol and nicotine in cigarettes. Sleeping pills and other tranquilizer prescribed by doctors fall in this class. Injection that are given for reliving pain.


Drugs leads to three kinds of dependency or addiction:

Physical addiction

Unpleasant symptoms like nausea, headache or cold sweats when drug is not available to the addict.

Psychological addiction

This is stage when the addict believes he cannot cope without drugs.

Functional addiction

This is when the user becomes dependent on the drugs for alleviating a physical problem or condition.

Amphetamines
Cocaine
Barbiturates
Tranquilizers
Opium
Morphine
Codeine
Heroin
Marijuana
Inhalants

Side effects of drug abuse

It leads to extreme anxiety.
It increases the chance of heart attack.
It increases blood pressure.
It leads to vomiting
An altered sense of visual, auditory and taste.
It cause hallucinations
It causes confusion in decision making.
It also causes mood problems.
Wasting lots of money.
Decreased mental sharpness.

Conclusion

From this blog we conclude that if any drugs is used in limited amounts it shows its benefits. But when you misused it then it leads to addiction and shows harmful affects on health. We all have one life and that is very precious so do not waste it on such substance that only gives you a unhealthy body full of health problems and diseases.
