CONVENIENCE FOODS AND FAST FOODS

 Modern foods can be grouped into two categories:

1. Convenience foods

2. Fast foods


Convenience Foods

These foods are the result of modern technological advances in the field of food processing, preservation techniques and invention of various newer food additives. The list comprises:

1. Instant dry mixes such as those of gulab jamun, pulao, biryani, idli, noodles, soup and so on.

2. Canned products, which need only to be warmed for a few seconds in microwave oven before being served piping hot. 

3. Frozen foods are available in the market in a wide variety such as all types of vegetables, chicken, meat, fish and their products.

4. Pre-prepared or fabricated foods such as laddos, chiwda, vadis are age-old preparations. Soybean is today used to make texturized products, which are similar to meat products and are popularly known as meat analogous e.g. nutrela, soya chunks, nutrinuggets.

Fast Foods

Nutritionally, fast foods contributes to several nutrients, mainly calories, fats, refined carbohydrates, proteins and sodium.
Most of the foods are a concentrated source of calories since, they contain large amount of carbohydrates and fats. Many of them are fried and contain visible fats. Other may contain invisible fat in the form of cheese, cream, eggs, various dressing and topping made from oils and eggs.

Fast foods contain salt in high concentration, particularly the spiced, fried and animal-based products. Except fish animal fats are a rich source of cholesterol. 
Chinese food is rich in sodium as well as monosodium glutamate. Sodium is directly held responsible for hypertension.

They may contain several additives like artificial color, flavor, artificial sweeteners, flavor modifiers, gelling agents etc. these all elements cause the very bad effect on human health. 

There are eight Fs in fast foods:

1. Family

The product offered by the fast food restaurants cater to the tastes of young and old alike. A visit to the nearest restaurants is a family outgoing enjoyed by all.

2. Fast

The service is quick is quick from the time food is ordered.

3. Fried

Several items are fried which most liked by people for e.g. French fries, potato chips.

4. Filling

Several fast foods are high in calories because of high filling in it. Like burger have lots of layers in it with cheese.

5. Fresh

Due to turnover food is served as fresh. There are a few salad vegetables which need to freshly cut prior to being used.

6. Fantasy

The customer like to try new concept, which adds excitements and fantasy of the dish.

7. Fordism

Most fast foods vendors have the capacity to machine produce a fast foods with almost no variation.

8. Franchising

The availability of the fast food in convenient place such as drive-in-restaurants, kiosks, carts, malls, airport made it popular.

I think, instead of sharing the types of fast-foods, you need to write about the effects of fast food(can be good or bad) on our health. Hope, we will read it soon.
